A Creative Citizen Is Born

When you talk to Scott Badenoch about his newly launched dot com, you get the sense that this one is going to go big time. He is smart, articulate, and self-assured as he runs you through the ways CreativeCitizen.com is going to bridge the disaggregated actions of the exploding Green Movement. Scott and partner Argam DerHartunian are driven by the mission to help everyone conserve 5 important elements: water, electricity, waste, emissions, and money. Badenoch explains his take on conservation, “No one is going to throw away their lifestyle and start wearing loin cloths and walking everywhere. It’s vital that the green movement find a place in people’s lives that saves them time, resources and money, rather than the other way around.”

Creative Citizen is a place people can go for eco solutions…not just to get them, but to give them as well. The idea is that everyday people can be experts in certain things, including the greening of our daily lives. Creative Citizen uses a wiki format, like Wikipedia, which can be edited by any user of the site. This way the collective voice of the Creative Citizen community produces the overall education for the user group…and it’s fun.

Though, as a site deep in BETA mode with a long way to go with their aesthetics and certain aspects of usability, the site is still a total joy to use. It feels like you’re playing a game while you score points which add to your overall “greenage,” edit solutions, and propose original ways to help reduce the footprint of individuals’ lives. What do you call it, you know when you exchange ideas and visuals with a media outlet, it’s like the opposite of TV…oh yeh-interactive! Creative Citizen is chock full of opportunities for just that. Now you don’t have to feel alone with your ahead-of-the-curve habits that you’re family rolls their eyes at. “Like, oh my god, Mom, why are we bringing our own mugs to Starbucks? Lame!” Not on Creative Citizen, my friend. No, here you get to let your green flag fly with pride and meet other amazing leaders of personal sustainability.

When asked what the greatest triumph has been so far, Argam states, “The community’s response to Creative Citizen. Everyone from moms to sustainability experts see the value of Creative Citizen and the vision Scott and I have for the future. It’s a great validation to see people using the site and incorporating what they learn into their daily life.” Creative solutions, global effects…we get it.
