Father’s Day 2008 is indeed upon us. Yes, again. Why not get your Dad something this year that’s better for the planet than say, another set of golf tees or that three-dimensional trout plaque that your Mom will make him hang in the garage anyway? (Disclaimer: An eco-friendly Father’s Day gift is a simply a suggestion and absolutely not intended to offend any child who’s purchased that trout plaque for Father’s Day in the past or plans to in the near future.) Anywho, here are the top eco gifts for Dad from eConscious Market…
Relaxed Dad
This hemp and organic cotton polo from Natural High Lifestyle is the perfect summer gift for any Dad. A polo shirt is an undeniable classic; the man could be a golfer, gangster, basketball player, horseshoe champion, or a champion nap-taker…this shirt will undoubtedly work for him. And whether you are any of the above, the price is going to work for you! The Natural High Polo comes in beautiful dark green, charcoal, and light grey shades and is probably one of the few ways you can get away with giving hemp to your dad for Father’s Day…Might as well take advantage of the irony.
If your Pop is a history buff, this Ben Franklin tee might just rock his world! Ben Franklin represents the inventor, orator, and crazy person inside all of our dads. Founding Fathers+ Father’s Day = You do the math. Certaintees are all produced in the good ol’ US of A out of a super soft bamboo/organic cotton blend. It is an uncontested scientific fact that men love soft t-shirts more than poker, M*A*S*H reruns, and cookies. Okay, it’s true, cookies vs. soft t-shirts is actually a draw.
On-The-Go Dad
Is your Dad always running out of cell phone batteries right when you need him? Or is he a gadget lover with a GPS, a PDA, and tons of MP3’s? Well, charging that man up while he’s on-the-go is as easy as 1-2-3 with the Voltaic Solar Messenger Bag. This bag has three solar panels for powering almost any handheld gadget short of a laptop (they’re working on this). Make your Pop feel like the coolest kid on the block…finally.
For fathers who take their lunch to work or like a few cold ones on the golf course or fishing boat, check out the Vy & Elle Cooler Bag made of recycled vinyl billboards. It’s one of those things he’d never get for himself, but he’ll use it over and over again. Not only that, but wouldn’t you rather have him rocking this cool tote made of recycled billboards rather than those styrofoam disposable ones? We thought so.
If your Dad is British, rides Harleys, or is just incredibly cool, he’s going to love the English Retreads Bentley Bag. This uber hip messenger bag is handcrafted in Boulder, Colorado from recycled truck inner tubes. The straps are made of reused seatbelt material and bicycle inner tubes. Your Dad will be the envy of all his friends…at least in his head he will be. Might as well let him have his day to shine, right?
Fancy Dad
For the man who loves a little bit of luxury, take a look at this striking Lion’s Head Belt Buckle by Alkemie, made of 100% recycled metals. Every piece by Alkemie is lovingly handmade in the USA by Dara Gerson and Ashley Lowengrub. This couple behind Alkemie fuse every piece with a unique sophistication, making each part of their collection a timeless classic. Alkemie pieces make incredible heirlooms, so perhaps you will even be lucky enough to receive the Lion Belt Buckle down the road. Is that wrong to say? You were thinking it anyway. Okay, on to the next questionable joke…
Every man needs a throne somewhere in his home, whether it’s in the living room or the bathroom. Ahem. If your father does indeed prefer his throne outside the WC, feast your eyes upon this stunning ode to modern design, the Knit Chair by Pirwi. This gorgeous seat is made simply of FSC-certified wood and rope and won the Bronze Leaf at the 2005 International Furniture Design Fair in Asahikawa, Japan. Admittedly this chair is expensive, but if you have a fancy dad and you’ve got the dough, it’s definitely worth rolling out for Pirwi.
Note: Fancy Dad gifts may require longer shipping times, please check with eConscious Market to confirm arrival times. Let’s face it, fancy doesn’t always come easy…if it did, everyone would be doing it.
Treehugger/SUV-Lover Dad
Whether your Papa is Mother’s Earth’s best friend or her worst nightmare, consider getting him a Carbon Offset package by BeGreen. You can offset Dad’s lifestyle, from his airline travel to his car’s emissions and home heating. Great for a man who has too much “stuff” already. Help your father feel like he has indeed partaken in the saving of Earth’s species, all from the comfort of his own couch.
Thanks Dad
eCo Times and eConsciousMarket.com would like to personally give a shoutout to all the dads out there hustling to make it happen for their families, as well as the ones spending time relaxing after a lifetime of doing just that. We see you and appreciate you. Happy Father’s Day!
