elevision: Interview With A Treehugger

Waylon Lewis of mindful life media machine, Elephant Journal, picks the brain of the biggest treehugger on the web, Graham Hill. This strikingly handsome founder of Treehugger.com gives his insights on revolutionizing the paper coffee cup, being bought by Discovery Channel, and the simple joys of watching his uber-green website’s traffic go through the roof. Ah, the joys of Google Analytics.

Thanks for the e-love, econsciousmarket/ecotimes! It’s funny ’cause Graham (unlike some we know) isn’t egotistical or self-involved, but this young man has done more to gather together the Green Movement starting wayyyy back in 2004 than almost anyone I know. Take 10 of me, add water, boil on high heat, you’d be lucky to get the positive effect on our fragile planet of one GH. Go EcoTimes!

Graham Hill looks like the mad scientist of green websites, and Waylon looks very centered, very…Buddhist. Anyhow, it’s great to see websites teaming up like this—treehugger and elephant, and now eco-times. Those kinds of partnerships are necessary to spread the good word to the millions of Americans who are just now learning to vote with their dollars and give a care about the world around them.

    Thanks, eco-times!

There was a time where Tree huggers were seen as the hippy dippy alternative types. Now green is cool and an ever expanding industry and state of mind. The future looks good with really smart young people like Graham Hill leading the way. Lots of cool stuff on treehugger, check it out.

Making “going green” accessible and attainable. My new favorite word, via Graham Hill: “aspirational.” If we don’t each take ownership of the Green Movement, it won’t move very far. Aspire to create change; thank you Graham, elephant journal, and eCoTimes!

This is great! Glad to see Elevision, EcoTimes and Graham Hill uniting! I am so happy for you Waylon. I remember when you were YR and couldn’t touch your toes!

I was hiking above Calistoga in California a few weeks ago, in a Redwood Forest, and I was beckoned by a TOWERING tree - THE grand daddy Redwood of the forest - to not just look at it, but hug it. It was a bit of a scramble to get to it as it was rooted across a rough, rambling river. But, I made it, touched its mossy exterior and wrapped my arms around its massive trunk.

I walked around it, marveling at its majesty and next thing you know I stumbled upon an altar someone had laid in its hollow. It was a fertility altar! 3 little chicken eggs. It was an incredibly powerful thing to discover, because my husband and I had been trying to have a baby for a few years. Almost 5 months to the day after finding this little altar in the middle of a thick California forest, I’m 4 months pregnant.

Thank you elephant Journal for instilling more intention and mindfulness in my life. And thank you Tree Hugger, for reminding me to, well, hug trees…

Great that we can have some fantastic green machines collaborating to shake some greenies up. Elephant and Tree Hugger are doing a great job getting the word out there in an easy to chew fashion, and looking damn good doing it. Keep it up! Much appreciated
